We are proud to announce that Brooks Middle School students Kevin Linares and Desiree Aaliyah-Konadu have received the "Let Your Light Shine (LYLS)" scholarship at last night’s Harvey 152 school board meeting. These students were awarded $500 and a LYLS certificate to honor the positive difference they have made in their school and community. We are saddened to share that our former educator, Mr. Reginald Weaver, has passed away. Known as "Reg" to many, he taught in the Harvey School District for 30 years and served as president of the Illinois Education Association (IEA) from 1981 to 1987. Mr. Weaver was a leader in advancing collective bargaining rights for educators in Illinois.
Throughout his career, Mr. Weaver worked to make sure students had access to quality public education. He supported educators so they could succeed in the classroom and encouraged them to take on leadership roles beyond teaching.
Reginald Weaver was 86 years old. While there is no information about services, we will be sure to keep you posted when it becomes available to the community.
We ask everyone in our community to keep the Weaver family in your thoughts as we honor his legacy of educational excellence.

Last week, teachers from the south suburbs attended the 2026 SDSCC (Superintendents’ Commission) Teachers Conference. This annual event brings educators together to exchange insights on educational advancement and student growth. Harvey 152 was proud to have several staff members serve as trainers. Our teachers contributed expertise on topics ranging from STEM to supporting multilingual learners, also adding a bit of fun during the pack-room line dancing class, taught by our very own Mr. Reed of Holmes School. Our Board of Education was also honored at the Ron Edmonds Scholarship Banquet during the conference's 2 days. Thank you to everyone from Harvey 152 for representing our district so well. It's TESTING TIME!! Students across the district are preparing to take the Illinois Assessment of Readiness (IAR). This test evaluates students in Common Core English language arts and mathematics. International Women's Week Spotlight: Harvey Edition!
Harvey native Denise Nolan attended Emerson (Maya Angelou) and Riley Elementary School, Brooks Jr. High, and Thornridge High School in Dolton. Denise continued her education, graduating from Robert Morris College with a degree in Business Administration.
Denise Nolan is an accomplished broadcast professional with more than 15 years of experience in radio. She currently serves as Chief Board Operator for Crawford Media Group, supporting the daily operations of four radio stations and ensuring flawless on-air delivery. In addition to her behind-the-scenes leadership, Denise is an on-air personality, "Necey, your Best Friend on the Weekend." She's known for her authentic connection with listeners and passion for engaging content.
Her expertise spans both the technical and creative sides of broadcasting, making her a valuable asset in every aspect of radio.
You can hear Necey every Saturday live from 12noon to 4 pm on Soul 1063 F.M. She ends every show telling her listeners, "No matter what you're going through, keep ya head up."
